Cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting are essential processes in maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, but they serve distinct purposes. Cleaning involves the removal of dirt, debris, and germs from surfaces using soap or detergent and water. It physically removes germs rather than killing them, but this process can still reduce their numbers and the risk of spreading infection. Sanitizing reduces the number of germs on surfaces to a safe level determined by public health standards. It typically involves using chemicals to lower the number of bacteria to a safe level, as indicated on the product label. Disinfecting, on the other hand, kills germs on surfaces. It uses chemicals to destroy or inactivate germs, making them no longer infectious. Disinfecting is crucial in high-touch areas or where there's a high risk of spreading infections, such as hospitals, kitchens, and bathrooms.
