Mould Vs. Mildew: What’s The Difference?

Mould and mildew are both types of fungi that thrive in damp, humid environments, but they differ in appearance, growth patterns, and potential health effects. Mould is typically darker in color, ranging from black to green or blue, and has a fuzzy or slimy texture. It tends to penetrate surfaces like walls, carpets, and wood, causing structural damage. Mildew, on the other hand, is lighter, often white or gray, and grows flat on the surface, usually found on bathroom tiles, fabrics, or walls. While mildew can be easier to clean and remove, mould is more dangerous as it can release harmful spores, leading to respiratory issues or allergic reactions. Both need to be addressed promptly to prevent health risks and damage to property, but understanding the distinction between the two can help in choosing the right treatment and prevention methods.
